By far the best anchorage on the north coast of Misima Island. Keep as close as possible to the port side and there will be no roll.
A hand drawn sketch is available for this anchorage with relevant and helpful notes. Click this image to open it full size and from there you can view it and or save it. This is provided courtesy of Bruce Bentley (SV Pacific Mercy) who has anchored here.
This is Gulewa village. I am from this village. The small hamlet is called LAWAK.. to the west is Bagol Butuna – means Waves Sound in Misima dialect. There is a creek that runs out on the west of this pic… it is called Uluna Creek – one of the biggest on Misima Island.
I am impressed… Thanks to whoever took this pic. lovely and sends waves into my spine… obviously, this is one of the best shots I’ve seen about Gulewa.
I Kelly Ephraim from gulewa village is impressed with what I’ve seen here. Yes, gulewa has a good anchorage location ifitit’s calm. I glad that gulewa is on the map for tourism. I am pretty sure that there will be a festival soon in July or August during the yam harvest. I hope that we will have visitors at gulewa.
